Die mit dem Rauchen verbundenen Gesundheitsrisiken sind hinreichend dokumentiert. Doch obwohl die Raucherquote unter Erwachsenen in den USA seit 1964 von 45 % auf 15 % gesunken ist, bleibt der Tabakkonsum eine Besorgnis erregende und kostspielige Herausforderung f\u00fcr die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung, Gesundheit und Lebensqualit\u00e4t der Gemeinden im ganzen Land. Besonders akut ist diese Herausforderung in Indiana, wo die Raucherquote derzeit bei 22,9 % liegt \u2013 ein Anstieg gegen\u00fcber dem Vorjahr \u2013 und der Staat damit auf dem beunruhigenden 44. Platz aller Bundesstaaten liegt. Zum Vergleich: Die zehn ges\u00fcndesten Bundesstaaten der USA weisen allesamt eine Raucherquote von 17,5 % oder weniger auf und liegen damit in Reichweite des Ziels der Centers for Disease Control and Prevention von 12 %. Dieselbe Tendenz gilt f\u00fcr Indianapolis. Im Jahr 2014 lag die Raucherquote unter Erwachsenen in der Stadt bei 22,2 %. Unter den 30 gr\u00f6\u00dften St\u00e4dten der USA belegte Indianas Hauptstadt bei der Raucherquote gemeinsam mit Nashville, Detroit und Louisville den vorletzten Platz. In den ges\u00fcndesten St\u00e4dten hingegen lagen die Raucherquoten zwischen 9 und 12 Prozent.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n\n\n
